Around the world today, multi-layered, or engineered wood flooring is a standard for residential spaces. Kährs proudly acknowledges its revolutionary invention and patent in 1941 as the start of a new era in parquet flooring. As a tribute to its history as well as the future, Kährs introduces the new wood flooring collection Beyond Retro. 

Being a truly design-oriented company, Kährs wanted to create a high design wood flooring collection, combining both classical and modern elements, with a sense of authenticity, warmth, modernity and at the same time adding just a touch of retro to the designs.  

“We simply love the retro design style as it is not tied to a fixed principle, which means that we can completely freely create and combine. With the Beyond Retro collection we feature interiors highlighting classical details, flirting with memories of earlier decades, however still with that everlasting modern touch”, Petra Lundblad, Chief Designer at Kährs says. 

The new collection features products in six silky, soft muted colors, six unique stains that all have a warm, deep, velvety and ultra-matt expression.  

And of course, all the Beyond Retro products are modern engineered wood flooring boards by Kährs, a construction derived from Kährs’ original patent of 1941.

Inspired by the past – designed for the future, Beyond Retro features  products in a variety of unique stains from light to dark. Designed to perfectly complement interiors where inspiration was taken from past decades, still, with the aim of creating an expression to last into the future. Each stain comes in both 3-strip and plank design for optimal selection. 

The floorboards are 15 mm thick, equipped with Kährs Woodloc 5S locking system for easy installation. To create the perfect finishing touch, each product has its own colour matched accessory set with skirtings and mouldings. 

More about the innovation of the multi-layer parquet
Gustaf Kähr, grandson of the founder took over the company Kährs in 1919. As a true entrepreneur and inventor, he was dedicated to finding efficient and more sustainable ways of using the wood raw material and improving the stability of wood when used as building materials. His perseverance paid off when in 1937 he received the patent for the invention of the modern multi-layer, laminated door.

Following upon this success, Gustaf worked hard to find a solution for the problem of gapping, twisting and cupping of wood floors. After several years, in 1941, Kährs was awarded a patent for the invention of today's modern engineered hardwood floor, the multi-layer parquet floor. An innovation that would become a grand success and eventually changed the entire wood flooring industry.
