Sustainability and environmental actions are at the heart of Kährs Group and a sustainability approach characterizes the entire organization. One of the UN SDG’s that is of high concern to us is “Climate action” being central to our commitment to reduce our operations’ impact on the climate.
Kährs is always striving to find more sustainable ways to operate and has committed to net Zero emissions by 2040. One of the most important areas where we can make a big difference is in the energy we use.
Already for many years now, we have been able to heat our wood flooring plants using biofuel. In the last couple of years, we have also worked on transforming our internal transportation to become fossil free as well seeking to change to green electricity when possible. All in all, many activities that have moved Kährs closer to the target to become net Zero.
In 2017, Kährs operations in Sweden committed to the goal that all internal transportations should be driven by electricity, HVO or biogas. In 2022, five years later, the target was reached and the internal traffic at the production facilities in Nybro and Blomstermåla, Sweden, either run on fossil free fuel* or has changed to electric vehicles. From our smallest forklifts to the largest timber loaders.
The transformation to more sustainable vehicles and fuels is also ongoing at our other production sites.
Wherever our operations are located, we strive to buy certified green electricity or the best mix available at each location. We are monitoring the supply alternatives and when green electricity becomes available, it is our preferred choice.
We currently use 100 percent renewable electricity at our production and warehouse facilities in Sweden and Romania and at all locations of our Finnish operations.
Our production and warehouse facilities in Sweden, Romania, Finland and Poland are heated by bioenergy.
Sustainability and environmental actions are at the heart of Kährs Group and a sustainability approach characterizes the entire organization. This is also why we aim to adapt towards the UN Sustainability Development Goals (UN SDG) that are set for 2030. One of the UN SDG’s that is of high concern to us is “Climate action” and thus greener transports are a crucial part of our commitment to reduce our operations’ impact on the climate.
*Type of fuel depends on availability. When HVO100 is not available on the market we use XTL with 97% renewable content.
